Our Team

  • John Rogers

    DIRECTOR

John is an ordained pastor in the Presbyterian Church (USA). His first call was at McCallie School in Chattanooga, TN, as chaplain (‘98-’08). John also served as the campus pastor at Presbyterian Campus Ministry at University Presbyterian Church in Chapel Hill, NC (‘08-’20). John was born in Raleigh, NC, and spent a good chunk of his childhood in central Florida. He graduated from Greensboro College in ’94 where John split his time between the golf team, student Christian fellowship, and studying religion and philosophy. John completed his masters of divinity in ’98 from Duke Divinity School.

In 2020 John stepped down from his campus pastor role to create something new. Peterson House is that response. John wanted to create a place for people to gather and be shaped by our sacred biblical text. This space for ministry entrepreneurship began with many conversations and research. It started with a question of whether if it mattered how often people are reading the Bible? In short- it does. What then can we offer as a response? John’s hope is that whatever Peterson House is offering is helping to give people good space in the text and that it is a way to help people follow Christ more faithfully.

John only met Eugene Peterson once and never has been to Flathead Lake (the actual Peterson family home), but he is trusting the Lord will guide him and the ministry to create a special place that will cater to those who also hunger to dig deep in God’s word and relish, amidst the movement and volume of life, a thinness where Christ always speaks.

John is married to Trina. They have 3 children- Liza (18), Cate (9), and James (7). They live in Carrboro, NC.

You can reach John at john@petersonhousenc.org.
